I used fish measuring boards for over 40 years as a professional fisheries biologist. I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. So, I designed these boards using that experience. These boards suit anglers, researchers, and biologists for accurate, durable measurements in the field.
I have learned over the years that there are many shapes and sizes to fish boards. Most of the orders I receive are for custom sizes. Therefore, I don’t keep too many pre-made boards in stock. These boards are made from solid ash. The base boards are 3/4″ thick on the larger models to accommodate a rugged 3″ hinge. The 36″ models hinge at 18″ so they fit in a backpack for remote work or carrying on the back of a snowmobile. The 48″ model hinges at 24″. These are perfect for fish like pike, muskies, and striped bass. We have also made many smaller one-piece fish boards.
We’ve added a couple laser engravers to the workshop recently and switched to laser engraved rulers on the fish measurement boards. The aluminum rulers were hard to get in 48 inches and became very pricey when we could find them. Not to mention they would peel from time to time. We had good luck with vinyl rulers, but still they could peel up at the ends. A laser engraved ruler will last forever. The are dead-on accurate. We still coat the surface with epoxy for a smooth, safe surface for the protection of the fish. We can create any kind of ruler but the standard ruler has both English/Metric measurements. The sides and back are fastened with stainless steel wood screws. The boards are coated with spar urethane for a long-lasting finish.
We can also personalize your boards with the laser engraver. We can add a name and/or logo for just $2.00 per logo. This is a great way to get your logo in your action photos of your fish work!
